Public transport runs on trust with random ticket checks (Kontrolle). Getting caught without a valid ticket is 'Schwarzfahren'. Always buy and validate your ticket if required. (Typically €60 fine, plus trouble if repeated.)

Many municipalities pass the 'Räumpflicht' (clearing duty) to residents/tenants. If someone slips on un-cleared ice in front of your door, you can be liable. (Fines, plus possible liability for injuries.)
