Answering with the STAR method
A simple framework for behavioural questions like 'Tell me about a time when…' so your answers stay structured and convincing.
Behavioural questions ('Tell me about a time you handled a conflict / met a tight deadline') are common. STAR keeps your answer focused and complete.
- 1Situation — briefly set the scene. Where and when?
- 2Task — what was your responsibility or the challenge?
- 3Action — what YOU specifically did (use 'I', not 'we').
- 4Result — the outcome, ideally with a number or concrete improvement.
Tip: Prepare 4–5 stories from your experience that you can flex to many questions: a success, a failure you learned from, a conflict, a leadership moment, and a time you solved a hard problem.
Good to know: Keep each answer to about 1.5–2 minutes. End on the result — it's the part interviewers remember.
