Frankfurt is small but global — home to the European Central Bank, major banks and a huge airport. It's one of the most international German cities, with a large English-speaking professional community.

Neighbourhoods internationals like

  • Nordend & Bornheim — central, lively, popular
  • Sachsenhausen — riverside, restaurants
  • Bockenheim — students, near the university
  • Westend — upscale, central

Getting started

  1. 1Find housing, then complete your Anmeldung.
  2. 2Sort tax ID, bank account and health insurance.
  3. 3Get an RMV / Deutschland-Ticket; the airport and ICE rail links are excellent.
Good to know: Frankfurt is compact and well-connected — many internationals also live in nearby towns and commute in by S-Bahn.
