Skilled trades · Elektroniker:in
Electrician / electronics technician
Skilled trades are badly needed and well paid. Being an employed electrician isn't a regulated profession, but recognising your vocational training makes you count as a 'skilled worker' (Fachkraft) — which unlocks the best visa routes. Recognition is done by IHK FOSA or the Handwerkskammer.
- Who recognises it
- IHK FOSA (industry) or the Handwerkskammer (crafts) assesses your training. Running your own electrical business needs a Meister.
- German level
- B1–B2 German for the workplace.
- Typical salary
- ≈ €2,800–3,800 gross/month.
- How long it takes
- 3–4 months for the equivalence assessment.
How recognition works
- 1Identify the right body (IHK FOSA or Handwerkskammer) via the Recognition Finder.
- 2Submit your vocational certificate + records for an equivalence assessment.
- 3Close any gaps with a qualification/adaptation measure if required.
- 4With recognition (or a recognition partnership) apply for the skilled-worker visa.
Documents you'll need
- Vocational qualification certificate (certified translation)
- Training curriculum / records
- Work experience proof
- German language certificate
- Passport + CV
💶 Costs & translations
Recognition fees are typically €100–600. Budget extra for certified German translations of your documents and, in some countries, an apostille/legalisation. Adaptation courses or exams can add further cost.
